LOGISTICS & MATERIALS MANAGEMENT

Instructor:  Kathy DePiro

Course Description

Logistics & Materials Management is a three-year program designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in the fields of materials handling and distribution.  Businesses engaged in manufacturing, transportation, wholesaling, and retailing goods are continually searching for good, entry-level employees.

Students who enjoy a fast-paced, hands-on, physical workplace would be successful here.  This course provides instruction in purchasing procedures, stock control systems, storage methods, use of material handling equipment, inventory control, receiving and stock handling, stockkeeping, shipping, human relations, job interview skills, merchandising math, entrepreneurship, computerized inventory systems, and computer assisted instruction.

This program provides the opportunity for a cooperative education experience during the senior year at many local businesses for qualified students.  The Warehouse Services program clusters with the Marketing program.  Students are given the opportunity to develop marketing/retailing skills in the school store and the local mall stores through hands-on experience.

Students are members of DECA (an Association of Marketing Students organizatioin) which provides students with the opportunity to become involved in many exciting activities related to their curriculum.  Involvement in DECA offers students leadership training and a chance to compete in local, state, and national events in ten career areas -- all designed to stimulate and motivate classroom interest and vocational competence.
