AMERICAN WELDING SOCIETY (AWS)

The American Welding Society (AWS) promotes education in the field of joining materials (both metallic and nonmetallic materials) by providing funding for educational opportunities for worthy recipients. The AWS has established a scholarship program for qualifying students who are in need of financial assistance in pursuing studies in the welding or materials joining field.


DISTRIBUTIVE EDUCATION CLUBS OF AMERICA (DECA)

DECA is a vocational student organization designed to enhance a specific career objective in marketing, management, or distribution. Any student enrolled in Marketing and Distribution or Warehouse Services Marketing is eligible for membership in DECA. The DECA tagline is: "An Association of Marketing Students." All student members are eligible for membership on the local, state, and national levels for competitions, etc. Each DECA chapter elects its own officers, and the Marketing and Warehousing teachers serve as chapter advisors. The Club usually undertakes activities which permit its members to grow in social, professional, and civic attitudes.


FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA (FFA)

The Future Farmers of America (FFA) is a national organization of approximately 500,000 members. The organization is provided for vocational-agriculture students in public secondary schools. The GACTC FFA organization serves the Environmental Resources program. Student members are afforded the opportunity to hold an organizational office, earn several chapter awards, and participate in regional, state, and national competitions. In addition, many fundraising activities are sponsored by FFA to cover the cost of class trips throughout the school year. All members of the GACTC FFA organization participate in many public service projects annually.


HEALTH OCCUPATIONS STUDENTS OF AMERICAN (HOSA)

HOSA is a national organization for secondary and postsecondary students enrolled in Health Occupations Education (Dental Assisting, Health Assisting, Practical Nursing, and others). Officially formed in 1976 HOSA chapters provide programs and activities to help individuals develop their physical, mental, and social well-being. Members strengthen their leadership and citizenship abilities through interaction with professional, business, and other students organizations.

The purpose of the HOSA organization is to develop leadership and technical HOSA skill competencies through a program of modification, awareness and recognition, which is an integral part of the Health Occupations Education instructional program. The mission of HOSA is to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all Americans.

Students from all local chapters attend regional and statewide conferences for leadership training, chapter management workshops, and participate in HOSA competitive events that test and recognize the students' competencies in their chosen health occupations and related skills. The HOSA National Leadership Conference is held in June each year.


NATIONAL VOCATIONAL-TECHNICAL HONOR SOCIETY (NV-THS)

The National Vocational-Technical Honor Society was chartered in spring of 1995, with the class being inducted in November, 1995. Requirements for induction begins with a qualification/application stating attainment of at least a 93% the previous year in a student's vocational class, recommendation by the student's teacher, at least a GPA at the home school of 85%, and inolvement in some activity.

Preamble: Believing that outstanding student effort and achievement should be rewarded and encouraged, and seeking to cultivate the ideals of scholastic excellence, service and leadership in our citizens of tomorrow, the governing officers of the National Vocational-Technical Honor Society have established this organization for the promotion of these ideals.

Purposes: The purposes of this organization shall be:  
to promote the ideals of honesty, service, leadership and skill development among America's future work force; to reward scholastic achievement in occupational, vocation and/or technical education; to assist members in their pursuit of career and educational goals; to help build and maintain a stronger, more positive image for vocational and technical students, programs and schools in the local community and throughout the nation; to encourage the practice of high standards of personal and professional conduct and individual responsibility among the membership; to help member schools initiate and maintain strong working partnerships with local institutions of business, industry and commerce; to hold conferences, workshops and seminars for the education and mutual improvement of the members and to provide opportunity for the exchange of ideas and experiences through meetings, publications and research; to advance the growth and ideals of the Society throughout the educational community.


SOUTHERN ALLEGHENY CHEF'S ASSOCIATION (SACA)

SACA is a charter member of the American Culinary Federation (ACF). The ACF is the only federation, approved by the Department of Labor, in the certification of chefs and cooks in the USA. The objective of the ACF is to promote the culinary profession and advancement of its members. It is up to local chapters like SACA to provide monthly meeting places and educational programs such as the new ComSource program. This program will insure that all ACF members have training on a national level. As the primary representative of the culinary profession, an integral part of the American food service industry, the ACF plays an important role in promoting the highest standards in the training of American chefs.


VOCATIONAL INDUSTRIAL CLUBS OF AMERICA (VICA)

VICA is an organization for young men and women enrolled as full-time students in secondary and postsecondary vocational courses in trade, industrial, and technical education. VICA is a special organization because its purposes and activities relate to career goals and interests. VICA is for those who want to develop themselves as people, learn to express themselves, work with others and make contributions as individuals. VICA builds and reinforces self-confidence, positive attitudes toward work, and communication skills. Through skill competitions, student activities, professional development programs and school leadership opportunities, VICA promotes an appreciation of vocational education while preparing students for success in the world of work.
