Course Description

Multi-Media/ Web Design Studio
Effectively interacting with an audience on many levels, from graphics to audio, is the challenge in this field.  Corporate websites and interactive CD-ROMs and training materials become a canvas in the professional world.

Digital Media Production
There's a revolution going on in communication--a digital revolution.  The internet, CDs, DVDs, and video production are all creating new avenues of artistic expression.  Students who know how to create, build, and deliver that digital information will have an edge in the job market.  In this program, students will learn to navigate the digital landscape, including the worlds of video production and multi-media technology.  Students will learn to combine traditional production techniques with the latest digital tools to shoot, edit, refine sound, and develop special effects.   Students will be prepared for entry-level production positions in internet, broadcasting, and cable industries.

Video Production
Maybe you're the kind of individual who was always in charge of making home movies.  Your storytelling happens behind the lens of a camera.  Maybe you're working at your local news station, or maybe you'll find yourself working on the crew that is filming a documentary on the streets of New York.  Video production is all about seeing what you wrote, shot, and/or edited become a reality on the screen.

Students will study mass communications and media writing.  Students will explore lighting, audio for video, television studio production, linear and non-linear editing.  Students will create a portfolio that will demonstrate individual talen in the form of a video from concept to final, edited composition.  

Photography
Photography is much more than capturing an image on film.  Once the photo is shot, it can be scanned, digitized, manipulated, retouched, etc.  This program emphasizes both the artistry and technical requirements of this highly creative field.  Students will learn how to capture images using unique perspectives.  Students will also be taught composition, lighting, darkroom processes, and digital imaging.

Prerequisites:  Verbal skills, Writing skills, Applied Math skills

Job Outlook

New opportunities for those with broadcast skills are opening. There is a steady increase of round-the-clock news channels and specialty channels. Future developments in high definition television may permit expansion to more than 1000 channels. The best prospects for beginners will be in small stations throughout the United States.

Work environments may also include editing/graphics suites from your own home, corporate video studios, or movie studios. Broadcast stations and independent production companies usually provide a well-lit, air-conditioned and comfortable work environment. Although much of the work is completed indoors, many productions will require videotaping from remote locations.

Further Education Opportunities

Students from this course may continue their education by attending a two-year or four-year college or technical school. Students are presently working in local television studios and independent production houses. Students also provide the technical staff for live studio productions which are cablecast on the Public Access Channel. Students also produce videos for the school and the community. The class has won numerous awards for various video productions.
