Course Description The first year of the program is the Cabinetmaking portion. During this year, the student will learn many facets of cabinetmaking. This will include sketching and blueprint reading, cabinet design, safety, set-up and operation of stationary power tools. As part of these studies, small bench projects will be required to achieve these duties and tasks. During the second and third year of the program students will learn to construct and install a complete kitchen. This will lead into the Finished Carpentry portion of the course. During this year, the student will learn many facets of the Finished Carpentry trade. This will include basic framing, kitchen layout and design, safety and operation of basic portable power tools, kitchen installation, plastic laminate fabrication and installation, installation of door jambs and the hanging of doors, trim and moldings, stair finish, and estimating. Since mathematics plays a very important role in all phases of the construction industry, this program will include an extensive study of mathematics that are required not only for entry-level employment, but will also allow the worker to function at a higher level. Prerequisites: Applied Math & Science, Measuring Skills (area, linear & perimeter). Appropriate Occupations
