retail marketing/entrepreneurship
Retail Marketing/Entrepreneurship is a three year program providing students with entry level skills in marketing and distribution occupations. Businesses such as retail stores, restaurants, and service areas are looking for qualified entry level employees from this area of study.
Students who enjoy working with people and have a good appearance and good communication skills would be successful here. This course provides instruction in selling, advertising, visual merchandising, promotion, human relations, cashiering, job interview skills, merchandising math, operations and management, entrepreneurship, computer assisted instruction and public relations.
This program provides the opportunity for a cooperative work experience in the senior year for qualified students. Students develop marketing skills through the operation of the school store. Students gain additional hands-on experience by participating in the Merchandising in the Mall program which allows students to go to mall stores and participate in various activities there. The Retail Marketing/Entrepreneurship program clusters with the Logistics and Material Management program which provides students with additional training in warehousing procedures.
Students in this area are members of DECA, an association of marketing students. This student organization is active in the school, the community, and the state, completing various community service projects and participating in DECA activities.
