INTERIOR  DECORATING & FINISHING

Course Description
Although this course is planned to prepare students for gainful employment upon graduation, it also provides an excellent foundation for those students who want to continue their education at a university or art and design school.

Within three years (1500 hours of class time), residential and commercial design and decorating will be studied.  An additional area of concentration will be "wall finishing."  Students will learn how to create faux finishes, paint, hand wall coverings, and also hang and finish drywall.  These additional skills will enhance the student's ability to work with clients, contractors, and builders.  Students will have the opportunity specialize in the decorating or finishing field.

Job Outlook


Jobs are available in each area of the field and depend on the individual's talent, skill level, and training.  Students who complete the program will graduate as Interior Decorators.   Interior Designers are more prominent in the larger cities; however, there are over ninety prospective employers within the Blair County area that hire interior decorators or specialized sales associates within the decorating field.

Further Education Opportunities
Many colleges, universities, art institutes offer Interior Design in both two- and four-year degrees.
