ELECTRICAL TRADES

Course Description
This course is designed to train students
to enter the field of residential, commercial, and industrial wiring and
maintenance. Electricians install electric wiring, switches, lighting
fixtures, and other types of equipment. The electrician also learns about
state and local codes, and is able to work from blueprints. Installation
and maintenance of electrical and electronic control systems, motors, and
servo-mechanical devices are an integral part of the program.
Prerequisites: Applied Math/Algebra, Good reading skills, Good attendance and attitude

Job Outlook
In the Altoona area, the job placement
has been very good. In addition, the demand for electricians is very good
in other parts of the country.
Further Education Opportunities
Many of the students from this program go on to a trade
school or a two- or four-year college in the electrical field. Many of the trade
schools will give credits for the work covered at the Greater Altoona Career and
Technology Center. This saves the student both time and money.
