1.  What do I receive from my involvement in the GACTC Cisco Academy?

The instruction prepares you for passing the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification examination.  CCNA is an internally recognized certification that provides evidence to employers that you possess certain valuable qualifications.  Cisco certification is as recognizable in South Africa as it is in Pennsylvania.

2.  Do I receive CCNA certificaton by passing the GACTC program?

No.  CCNA certification is achieved by passing the Cisco-sponsored examination.   The GACTC program includes instruction in all the subject matter included on the examination.  Because passing the examination depends upon the preparation and initiative of the student, the GACTC cannot guarantee that all graduates will become CCNA certified.

3.  Why should I study Cisco technology?

Cisco Systems is the world's leading supplier of hardware for the Internet and local area networks.  Network professionals are more likely to encounter Cisco equipment than any other manufacturers' equipment combined.  Additionally, the overriding principles and concepts learned in a Cisco Academy apply to similar network routers and switches produced by other manufacturers.

4.  Who can be successful in achieving CCNA certification?

Students expecting to become CCNA certified need to possess an aptitude for technological learning and a high level of motivation for completing the Cisco Academy program.  Some students may need to devote time beyond the regular learning expectation to Cisco Academy topics.

5.  Are all students in the Computer Repair Technology program expected to qualify for CCNA certification?

No.  Only those students who possess the motivation to undertake the rigorous preparation for the CCNA examination are expected to become certified.  However, we expect to see at least a 50% success rate for our students.

6.  Are there other Cisco certifications beyond CCNA?

Yes.  The next logical progression from CCNA is to Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).  Programs leading to CCNP certification are offered at area colleges, including Cambria County Area Community College and Mount Aloysius College.

7.  What does CCNA certification do for me?

Through attaining CCNA certification, you become recognized as a technician possessing particular skills and competencies that qualify you for well-paid jobs involving high-level responsibilities.  A popular website to investigate career opportunities for CCNA's and other technology professionals is www.dice.com. The employment opportunities for networking technicians and professionals continues to improve in spite of evidence of other economic turndowns.

8.  Who can I contact with questions regarding Cisco Academy and other technology-related programs at the GACTC ?
