Course Description
This course is designed to provide students with the skills and
knowledge necessary to function effectively and safely as a
phlebotomist. The course includes 120 hours of theory and 120 hours of
clinical instruction. The course provides accurate, up-to-date
information in the phlebotomy procedures and techniques. The student is
taught a wide variety of phlebotomy duties, with an emphasis placed on
routine and special collection procedures, equipment, patient
identification and OSHA regulations.
Career Opportunities
Students graduating from the program are able to work as
phlebotomists in a wide range of laboratory settings including, but not
limited to, the physician’s office, clinics, and hospital settings. Upon
completion of the course, graduates are qualified to take the written
exam to become a "Certified Phlebotomist."
Higher Education
Students may wish to pursue further medical training in a health
related area such as Medical Lab Technician, Medical Assistant, Licensed
Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse.
Special Information
This training is taught strictly to adult students. Applications are
accepted on an ongoing basis. Two sessions are taught throughout the
year in the spring and fall semesters. Interviews are scheduled after
completing all required tests and evaluations. A physical exam and
certain vaccinations are required for admission into the program .
